Photos Of A Jeepney Passenger Goes Viral Because The Netizens Cannot Determine If She’s A Girl Or He’s A Boy! BE THE JUDGE!
In the past, men are expected to be manly while women need to act feminine, especially when it comes to fashion and all things related to physical appearance. But overtime, society changes and such categories are now considered as simply a matter of preference.
Let’s talk about androgyny. The world comes from the Greek word ‘andro’ meaning man and ‘gyny’ meaning woman. Androgyny means having both male and female characteristics. It applies to people who don’t want to be seen or identified by their gender.
In the Philippines, one example is Jullian Culas of Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP). He is a 24-year-old male with longs legs and androgynous figure. He was featured in Preview magazine last year and detailed that he had already walked for a number of creations by local designers.
Culas shared that he was originally from Tacloban, but he moved to Manila to pursue his college education as he felt like provincial life wouldn’t suffice his aspirations.
“I’m lucky enough to be one of the few androgynous models in the Philippine fashion industry,” he told the magazine.
“It’s [androgyny] all about breaking barriers and redefining what’s normal, at least in the fashion industry. It is the ability to transform into anything—image, gender, character,” he said.
WordPress blogger Reneta Xian said androgyny is the mix of having traits of both male and female. There are many things that makes one androgynous, she added, such as the way you dress, do your hair or nails, and the way you carry yourself.
Bodily proportions are also a factor, she said. Women mostly have rounder faces whilst men have edgy ones, and the mix of these traits can make one androgynous—like this boy whose photos went viral in Facebook.
Online user Grace Tan who encountered a female-looking guy inside the jeepney. She wrote on her caption: “Ang cute nung batang nakasakay ko kanina. Mukhang babae pero lalaki talaga sya. Tas nahuli ko nakatitig sya saken. Feeling ko ang ganda ko eh [laughs].”
The post which dated July 31st earned around 14,000 reactions and 11,400 shares from netizens as of this writing. Most users commended his looks and even asked for his official account. Tan’s post was shared by Facebook page Kiddos Official and even thanked her for taking photos of him.
