Taiwanese man murders baby daughter

In Taiwan, police arrested Mr. Chen for the murder of his own daughter. Mr. Chen says he doesn’t remember smothering his one-year-old daughter to death, but he doesn’t deny killing her either.

Mr. Chen was an alcoholic and when he drank he often argued with his wife. Last year, his wife took their newborn daughter and moved in with her parents. On the weekends, she would allow her husband to visit their daughter, sometimes dropping their daughter off at his apartment, providing he was sober.

But last weekend, while his daughter was with her father, Mr. Chen argued with his wife over child support. After the argument, Mr. Chen started drinking. His daughter began crying, which frustrated Mr. Chen, so he smothered her with a towel.

A few hours later he received a text message from his wife asking about when he’d return their daughter to her parents’ place. Mr. Chen ignored the message, waited 12 hours, then placed his daughter’s body in a trash bag, and left the bag in front of his wife’s apartment complex.

Police arrested Mr. Chen the next day after a security guard for the apartment discovered the tiny body. Prosecutors have stated that they will ask for the maximum sentence.
